The 2009 Horwich Carnival Races, on Sunday June 21st, again proved to be a fantastic mixture of cycling, running and walking events suitable for all levels of ability.The event organisers were again delighted to welcome back the BMAF 5K Championships-The BMAF Road Running Championships for the sixth time in seven years and the BMAF Road Walking Championships for the third year in a row.The races also staged the British Cycling National Women's Circuit Road Race Championships for the third year in a row.Apologies that this year's Railway Sleeper Relay World Championships did not take place due to lack of entries.Let's hope that Dragonfly Landscapes will be able to defend their title in 2010.
The event is organised by the HORWICH CARNIVAL RACES COMMITTEE and is one of the biggest events on both the athletics and cycling calendars.
The Horwich Carnival Races and Tour of Horwich & Rivington are proud to support local charities, including Bolton Hospice. An update of the amount of money raised will appear on the site asap after the races day.
The races have links with another charity based event, the Urbanathlon at SportCity, Manchester held on Sunday 2nd August.Like the Carnival Races this is a unique event and this year attracted over 800 charity competitors. For more information visit www.urbanathlon.co.uk.
